CHARLOTTE COUNTY CHAPTER EVENT

Charlotte County Chapter had its first meeting at the memorial auditorium on Thursday, 4 April. About 275 people attended this inaugural meeting. Larry Stewart the Chairman of the Charlotte County Chapter hosted the event, which included guest speaker Jim Kelvin and by teleconference Rep. Lindsay Harrington. The hour plus long event started out with an organizational briefing by Larry. He out lined how the chapter was formed, what it was comprised of and where it was going. Following Larry was Jim Kelvin who gave an overview of Standing Watch and briefed the Chapter on the recent events that took place at the Gainesville Manatee Conference followed him. After taking a few questions a teleconference connection was made with Lindsay Harrington. Lindsay talked about the recent successes in this legislative session. He outlined what we didn¹t get and what we needed to do next year. After he took a few questions that were moderated by Jim. Lindsay was surprised by the introduction of Mr. Jim Albright of the FCYC. Jim Albright presented to Lindsay an award from FCYC for the excellent work that he did for boaters this year. Brian Mims, Lindsay¹s aid, accepted the award in behalf of the Representative. As a last surprise, Jim presented Lindsay with Standing Watch¹s first award, The Keeper of the Watch. Lindsay expressed his gratitude not only to the Standing Watch organization but also to the people who wrote to the legislators and helped get the Harrington Bill through this year.
